4 Facets Every Solid CSR Program Has

In a recent employee engagement study, 74% of employees said they feel more fulfilled by their job when they can make positive impacts on social and environmental issues. When it comes to CSR, though, all of your employees have different causes they care about and preferred ways to give back. A multi-faceted CSR program can be a quick solution to this problem but how do you ensure it’s successful? These are the things you need to include in your program to make sure all employees have the options they need to get involved:
Having payroll deduction as part of your customizable CSR program is crucial for those employees who want to give back to their favorite cause but are strapped on extra time. About 55% of employees (full-time) who made a donation in 2015 did so via a payroll deduction. We all lead busy lives outside of work and sometimes volunteering is not a priority but having this option still enables them to give back. Not to mention, their donations are tax deductible!
Individual and Team Volunteering
For those who may not have the means to have their donation be in the form of payroll deduction, volunteering lets them donate their time. Some individuals also need a little extra push when it comes to volunteering and doing so in a team can be just the right amount of a nudge. 81% of employees who volunteered with their coworkers said it strengthened their relationships. So not only will you get those shy employees out and involved but it will also boost camaraderie in the office. For those who don’t enjoy group activities, though, individual volunteering is also a great option. If they volunteer by themselves, they have the opportunity to pick which cause is most important to them which may not be the same as the rest of the group.
Adding matching gifts to your customizable options gives employees the ability to give to the causes they care about all while feeling their employer supports the same causes as well. 70% of employees said they would be more loyal to the company that helps them contribute to issues they feel are important. It’s a win-win for both you and your employees.
Presenting employees with the option to give to disasters across the world is a great way to show your company cares about not only what’s going on in your country, but what’s happening internationally as well. Of course, no one wants disasters to happen but when they do, this option is a great way for employees to possibly pivot the philanthropy initiatives they’re currently taking part in and shift them towards what’s happening in the world or just add on to what they’re already doing.
While investing in a CSR program is the first step in the right direction, it’s important to recognize not all employees will want to contribute to the same cause in the same way. Show your employees you care about the same issues they do and kick off your customizable CSR program with these four aspects!
