Wonderful Community Grants will support organizations proposing projects that will directly impact the following communities: Wasco, Shafter, Delano, Avenal, Firebaugh, Mendota, Sanger, and Del Rey

Organizations based outside these cities may apply as long as proposed projects can show a direct impact to one or more of these communities as a part of their grant proposal.

The COVID-19 Relief Grant will open on August 1, 2020 and accept rolling applications until the funds are exhausted. Funds must be spent within one year from the date each unique grant check is cut.

A total of $1,000,000 is available.

You may request any amount from $1,000 - $50,000 for a one year grant or $100,000 for a two-year grant. Only between 1-4 two-year grants will be awarded.

Only employees, board members and others authorized to apply for funding for the organization are allowed to submit an application. The following is a list of eligible organizations:

- Nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations (including schools).
- Hospitals, clinics and other community-based health programs.
- Local government agencies.
- Religious organizations, provided the project has a secular purpose, no religious content, and benefits the greater community without regard to religious affiliation.

Yes, organizations may submit up to two applications for projects directly benefiting Wasco, Shafter, Delano, Avenal, Firebaugh, Mendota, Sanger, and Del Rey.

We expect our nonprofit and school partners to apply for projects with a direct impact in one or more of our target communities, particularly in response to COVID-19. Priority will be given to grants who are seeking funds in response to:

- Programs/services which were cut due to State and Federal Budget cuts as a result of coronavirus
- Needs in direct response to COVID-19 (ex. PPE)

Grant applications must be in response to COVID-19 budget cuts or needs.

Program activities may include, but are not limited to:
- Afterschool programs
- Personal Protective Equipment
- COVID-19 testing in rural communities
- Programs/services for essential workers
- Economic recovery
- Program development and expansion
- Capacity-building, innovation, technology and equipment
- Public education and outreach
- One-time start-up costs required for the program
- Programmatic events such as workshops (fundraising events are not eligible)
- Small-scale capital improvements

Wonderful Community Grants will not fund:

- Political causes, organizations, candidates or campaigns; Activities influencing legislation and/or elections (501(c)4)
- Sponsorship for events, travel, competitions, sports teams, athletic tournaments or conferences
- Religious organizations, unless proposed project has a secular purpose and no religious content, benefits the greater community without regard to religious affiliation
- Individuals, scholarships, or tuition assistance
- Endowments/memorials
- Capital campaigns
- Litigation
- Deficits or debt reduction
- Organizations that discriminate against certain groups or individuals in the delivery of programs and services on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation or disability.

You will be required to submit the following reports:

- A monthly update on your deliverables and project outcomes, via email, in narrative form
- Monthly photos (as applicable)
- A final Impact Report submitted via CyberGrants within one month of your project end date

We require that you seek permission prior to using The Wonderful Company logo on any outreach and event materials.
If your proposed budget includes funding to purchase physical assets (athletic equipment, murals, freezers, shade structures, etc.), you may be asked to hang a plaque or sign recognizing The Wonderful Company. Recognition costs may be included in your proposed budget.

Site visits are our preferred way of supporting you in your programs, however due to COVID-19 site visits may be virtual when in-person visits are not feasible.
1-2 site visits per year are ideal and we ask that you coordinate these visits with the Community Grants Manager.
