Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) and NC Recreation and Park Association (NCRPA) in collaboration with Outdoor Foundation/Outdoor Nation are proud to announce the launch of the 2013 GO NC! Health Challenge Grants. The GO NC! Health Challenge Grants is a statewide competition that will focus directly on enhancing the link between outdoor activity and health. These challenge grants are part of a larger collaboration between BCBSNC and the NC Recreation and Park Association and supports BCBSNC's on-going GO NC! initiative.
Deadline: Proposals must be submitted to Outdoor Nation by August 30, 2013.
Get Outside North Carolina! (GO NC!) is an initiative that encourages North Carolinians to get outside and get active through the advancement of North Carolina’s greenway systems, increased access to public bicycles and the overall promotion of outdoor physical activity. GO NC! aligns with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina’s (BCBSNC) Nourishing North Carolina initiative (a statewide community garden program making local, healthy food more accessible to in each of North Carolina’s 100 counties) and supports BCBSNC’s commitment to building healthier communities across the state.
The GO NC! Health Challenge Grant supports innovative projects and initiatives that align with the GO NC! mission and result in increased physical activity through the advancement of North Carolina’s greenway systems, increased access to public bicycles and/or the overall promotion of outdoor physical activity. Eligible applicants include non-profits, government agencies, churches and schools. In addition, young people between the ages of 18 and 28 are also welcome to apply but must have an eligible partner.
Projects must encourage and increase participation in outdoor recreation as a way to address top health concerns.
Projects and agencies/organizations must be based in NC. Three grants will be awarded: one in the eastern, western and central parts of the state. CLICK HERE FOR MAP OF STATE.
Projects should show the link between health and outdoors.
Projects should be innovative.
Projects should have clear goals and measurable objectives.
Projects that include state/local parks or greenways will be given a higher priority.
Projects should demonstrate positive outputs within six-nine months.
Projects leads should be able to provide monthly updates on the progress of their project.
Project reports must include a minimum of 5 high-resolution photos and a 3-minute video highlighting project scope.
Projects must begin in Fall 2013 and must be completed by February 28, 2014.
Three projects, with one representing each of the following areas of the state: eastern, middle and western will be selected. Each project may be awarded up to $7,500.
Selection and Notification Process
Criteria for GO NC! Health Challenge Grants have been established by BCBSNC, NCRPA and Outdoor Foundation. Based on a rigorous review and selection process, the partners will announce the three awardees on September 18, 2013.
