During the global health crisis created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (“Alexion”) remains committed to supporting the patient communities and organizations with which we interact. Due to the urgency of the situation, Alexion is currently reviewing emergency funding requests from eligible external organizations submitted via our CyberGrants portal on a rolling basis. Alexion’s quarterly review cycle and decision timelines will not apply to emergency funding request; all other process and procedures described on this page apply.

At times, Alexion may provide support to eligible external organizations in the form of Grants, or Corporate Giving. Alexion provides Grants to certain third parties to support specific, independent educational activities, programs, or projects proposed by the third parties that align with Alexion’s goals. Examples of such activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Medical Education: Grants for specific HCP educational or professional development. Activities aimed at healthcare quality improvement or health services initiatives that benefit the public or improve patient care and are aligned with Alexion's goals, approved therapies, and disease areas of interest.
  • Patient Advocacy: Grants that furthers the mission of an existing Patient Advocacy Organization (PAO) that advocates for and/or addresses the needs of patients with severe and life-threatening rare diseases for which there are few, if any, effective treatment options and their caregivers.
  • Professional and scientific development activities. Grants for professional and scientific development activities, include, but are not limited to fellowships. Alexion may provide Medical Education Grants to support fellowship programs organized by independent academic medical centers or medical schools that enable HCPs in training to learn in clinical settings or work on special projects. The fellowship grant recipient must bear sole responsibility for selecting the individuals for fellowships and scholarships awards, as well as the disciplines from which they are selected. Medical Education Grants to support fellowship programs may only be approved to support the program for a year. Recipient organizations seeking support for a fellowship spanning multiple years must reapply for support from Alexion on an annual basis.

Alexion cannot receive anything of significant value (i.e., a tangible benefit) in return for Medical, PAO or Professional and scientific development Grants. Examples of a tangible benefit include promotional opportunities, advertisement, or free registrations or tickets.

Alexion also provides support in the form of Corporate Giving. Corporate Giving is giving that supports organizations that have an immediate and long-lasting positive impact in their communities and that closely align with Alexion’s Corporate Giving areas of focus. Corporate Giving areas of focus include, but are not limited to: community well-being, educational opportunities, and diversity and inclusion efforts in society.
